Newborn Client Prep Guide

Congratulations! I am so thrilled to be working with you and your family, and cannot wait to meet the newest member of your family.

This prep guide is an abbreviated version of a more extensive guide. If you have additional questions, or want a more in-depth guide, check out my post “How To Prepare For A Newborn Session.”

How do I schedule my session?

Once your baby has arrived, and you are settled at home, you can let me know by text/email and I will send over available dates. Since I do not pose babies, my newborn sessions take place anytime during the fourth trimester (birth through 12 weeks).

If your baby needs some additional care from a health care team, feel free to wait to get in touch until you are comfortable and ready to schedule, even if that takes several weeks. If you are in this situation, and have any questions, please let me know!

What should we wear?

You can find my “What To Wear For A Newborn Session” guide at this link.

Do I need to clean my entire house?

Not at all! We will most likely be in the living room and nursery, and possibly the master bedroom (if you choose).

How do I prepare my newborn?

Continue with your usual routine! Feed your baby when they’re hungry, let them sleep when they’re tired.

Some newborn photographers want a very full, sleepy baby. But since I do not do any posing, your baby can be fed and nap on their normal schedule.

Do I need to buy props?

Nope! While I am happy to include small items such as signs, I don’t include props in my newborn sessions.

What do I need to have ready?

Just yourselves! If you have any special blankets you would like to use, set them aside. If you aren’t sure on outfits, I’m also happy to help you decide what to wear (or what to put baby in) when I arrive.

What is a session typically like?

I typically start with the entire family, followed by sibling photos. At that point, your older children will be done with their portion of the session, so they’re free to watch cartoons/get a snack. I will follow that up with photos of mom and baby, dad and baby, and finish with baby solo (see note below).

Why are we in so many photos?

My style of photography is lifestyle newborn photography. This is a mix of posed and documentary style photography, which focuses on the connection the new baby has with their family. While I will do my best to get photos of your baby alone, if your baby is fussy, we may need to focus on more photos in arms rather than alone on a blanket.

How do we pay our invoice?

You will receive an email with a link to your invoice on the day of the session.

When do we see our photos?

You will receive sneak peeks images within 3 business days of your invoice being paid. I will deliver your full gallery within 2 weeks of your paid balance.

Still have questions?

If you have additional questions, please get in touch and let me know!
